Intro to Parametric Techniques: Rhinoceros 3D + Grasshopper

The rapid evolution and refinement of  digital design technologies and fabrication processes have empowered ambitious designers to pursue ever greater formal complexity, structural gymnastics, and efficiency through optimization. This course will look at experimental applications of  Grasshopper, a tool within Rhinoceros 3D, to develop new methods for the design and fabrication of  geometrically complex objects at all conceivable scales.Over six weeks, participants will develop a basic understanding of  how to use Grasshopper to rapidly iterate through large numbers of  design options, develop form-finding techniques, produce optimized associative geometries, and prepare projects for digital fabrication and assembly. Full course outline is here.  Students without a Rhino license are advised to start their 90 day trial with enough time to complete the course.

Teacher: Ethan Bennett is an Architect who studied at the University of Texas at Austin and Columbia University.
